The Natural Legacy by Hainsworth Caskets series has been thoughtfully put together to offer an extensive selection of environmentally friendly funeral products that are not only fully biodegradable but offer a soft and gentle alternative to the more traditional materials available.

All our caskets and accessories are hand-made to the highest quality standards. We use a combination of pure new wool and organic cotton which gives an overall feeling of comfort and reassurance to the families, while having the quality standard of strength and functionality which has been independently accredited

Swaledale Casket

The Swaledale casket is made using pure virgin wool, supported on a strong recycled fibreboard frame. Wool is a fiber with a true "green" lineage that is both sustainable and biodegradable. The interior is generously lined with cotton and attractively edged in jute.

Independently tested and accredited for strength and weight bearing, the Swaledale's unique design combines the highest environmental standards with an attractive and soft feel. Designed to differ from the traditional wooden casket, it offers a contemporary style with comfortable handling. The concept is completed with a personalized embroidered woolen name plate. All the materials used in the Swaledale casket are readily biodegradable and suitable for cremation and all types of burial.

Woolen Child and Infant Caskets

The Hainsworth USA© Woolen Infant and Child series offers a gentle and soft alternative to the traditional casket. The warm and tactile wool exterior combines with the soft and padded interior to give an overall feeling of comfort evocative of a moses basket. The lid is secured by small wooden toggles. Caskets are carefully hand-stitched in Yorkshire, England using pure new British wool, supported on a strong recycled fibreboard frame. The interiors are generously lined with organic cotton and come with a soft padded mattress and pure new wool blanket. The caskets are completed with a personalized embroidered name plate. All materials used in a Hainsworth USA© casket are readily biodegradable and suitable for all types of burial.

Casket Interior

The casket interior is generously lined with organic cotton, attractively edged with jute and has a waterproof base which is also biodegradable. The overall appearance is one of gentleness and comfort.

Swaledale Presenters

The Presenter, made from pure virgin wool and recycled fibreboard, can be used in a variety of ways as a temporary or permanent cremation container. The Presenter can be used to present, to carry in ceremony or to inter cremated remains. This versatile piece can be personalized with an embroidered name plate and is available in large and small sizes

Display Tray

The Display Tray is necessary to insure correct weight displacement in some situations. The Display Tray has an elegant beveled edge and comes with a cotton sleeve.

Woolen Casket

• Wool will not ignite until it reaches a temperature of 500°C - 600°C (wood will ignite with an open flame between 530°C - 900°C).
• Due to the natural properties of all the materials used in the production of the Hainsworth USA Casket, emission levels are low.
• Wooden slats are securely attached to the base of the casket. The wooden slats are one inch deep and give rigidity and lift to the base of the caskets. The wide width of the slats ensures that the base is well balanced so that the casket will move smoothly across any surface.
• Reinforced hardboard panels fully encircle both ends of the casket to give a strong and rigid end to the head and foot. This ensures the woolen casket is suitable for all types of hand and automatic charging.
• The casket has been independently tested by Lloyds British Testing House to a weight bearing 500 pounds.

• 100% Pure New British Wool - purchased through the British Wool Marketing Board Quality Assurance Scheme.
• Recycled Fibreboard Frame with strengthened end panels.
• Organic Cotton Liner and Frilling - sourced through the Global Organic Textile Standard.
• Sewn in Yorkshire by Hainsworth.
• Each casket is generously lined with cotton wadding covered in a biodegradable polythene waterproof base, fitted cotton frilling and stuffed wool pillow.
• Fully biodegradable polythene is used in the delivery wrapping.
